WORKSHOP A: A Step-By-Step Process To Link Your Communications To Organizational Strategy And Measure Its Impact
Sinickas Communications, Inc.

It’s hard to connect our work with our organization’s desired results unless we plan our communication strategies from the beginning to help deliver those results. This workshop will give you an easy-to-follow, step-by-step process to connect communication to business goals—and then prove the value of the communication.

Specifically, in this session, you will learn the difference between communicating about an organizational strategy and communicating in a way that actually fulfills the strategy—sometimes without even mentioning the strategy itself.

You will also be provided with a step-by-step process for engaging your executive management in communication planning in a way that feels like other, logical business processes they are comfortable with, including:

  • Determining which stakeholder groups are most important in helping to achieve a particular goal
  • Identifying the ideal behaviors for each stakeholder group to reach the goal
  • Discovering through informal research which knowledge and attitude messages are contributing to the current (incorrect) behaviors and which messages would better motivate the ideal behaviors
  • Choosing the best channels for the ideal knowledge and attitude messages
  • Setting measurable objectives for the messages and channels
  • Developing measures that will connect your communications with achievement of the ideal behaviors and organizational goals

Leveraging The Power Of Mobile Technology To Increase Employee Engagement, Productivity, And Operational Success
Northwell Health & APPrise Mobile

As many communicators are aware, one of the key issues in today’s workplace is a lack of employee engagement. As the Gallup Organization frequently reminds us, only about 1/3 of the workforce is engaged, leaving the other 2/3 either “neutral” or completely disengaged.  Disengaged employees can negatively affect their business units, colleagues and overall organization productivity. This session will highlight a mobile communications strategy that can serve as a case study to help reach both the engaged and disengaged segments of your workforce.

Given the prevalence of the mobile device, every company should be considering how to incorporate mobile into their communications strategy, and this session will help establish some key criteria for incorporating mobile. As a result of this session, attendees will learn how to:

  • Keep your employees engaged through a mobile communications strategy thus increasing productivity and satisfaction levels
  • Ensure that every employee, especially the frontline worker typically does not access the company intranet, can easily and efficiently access relevant and important information
  • Create and launch an internal communications strategy that utilizes a company’s own branded app to communicate, inform and engage with their employees

PiplineRx & ManageUP PRM

How do we close the gap in communication in a field of pharmacy with no direct contact with its employees or clients?  In the field of telepharmacy, staff and clients are spread across the United States and for the majority of staff, you will never meet each other in person and you will never see your client base.

Hear how PipelineRx uses an integrated project-planning and storage platform while supporting interdepartmental visibility without the hassle of emails, calendar invites, and follow up emails.

Learn how PipelineRX leveraged innovative technology to bring information for employees in one place, including how to:

  • Share the visibility of tasks across multiple departments without having to email and store separately multiple files on the same staff member or client
  • Enable ease of use by allowing staff and managers one place to look and see all of the responses for the entire team

How Personalizing Content And Ditching Site Ownership Will Transform Your Intranet — And The Effort It Takes To Maintain It
UPMC

Staff only want to know what’s relevant to them. And with more than 65,000 employees, it’s hard to make everything relevant to everyone. At UPMC, the situation was exacerbated by internal departments creating their own intranet spaces for every audience, resulting in duplication and much more effort to reach these audiences.

In January 2017, the intranet team redefined the rules of intranet ownership and created one topic- based site where all related content would live together, rather than with the department who “owned” it. To accommodate various audiences with unique content needs, UPMC enabled personalization and tagged each piece of content so it only rolled up when it was relevant to that user.

The effort reduced content duplication significantly, and UPMC slimmed down its intranet from 341 sites to 95 sites. And now the new topic-based information structure is transforming the way staff promote and find information.

Following this discussion, you’ll gain an understanding on:

  • How to ditch organizational structure and prepare a topic-based information architecture
  • Why personalizing content is inevitable and how it will make your life much easier
  • How to have difficult conversations with clients and stakeholders about losing their personal real estate on the intranet
  • How to go through every piece of your intranet's content (and why it's so worth it)
  • Ideas for promoting your intranet team as user experience experts to minimize pushback and establish credibility

Communication Culture: How An Organization’s Culture Is Shaped By Its Internal Communication Strategy
TriHealth

A great deal of effort goes into defining and executing a company’s culture – from employee engagement initiatives to total rewards packages to the system hierarchy, all aspects of a company are purposefully designed to deliver a prescribed and consistent experience for employees. But what happens when a company’s internal communication strategy, often times an afterthought, isn’t designed to support and cement that culture? And what can you do when you realize that your company’s culture is being unintentionally derailed by its internal communication practices?

Learn the critical importance of having internal communication strategies woven into the cultural landscape of your organization, including how to:

  • Design an effective internal communication strategy that compliments your organization’s mission, vision and values, delivers on your brand promise and develops internal brand ambassadors without using any kind of social media
  • Uncover missed opportunities to strengthen your organization’s culture
  • Find your voice – your organization’s communication style, channels, messaging, tone and pace all lead to a single collective perception by your employees

  • Develop a strong and lasting governance model
  • Be flexible in content migration
  • Engage IT in assessing technical components
  • Leverage UX testing for a better user experience
